About the project
Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), funded a clinic in 2004 in the Hearing and Speech department to provide professional training to students in different audiology areas. It is the only teaching clinic for speech and hearing sciences in northern Jordan and one of three across the country. They also provide free access to audiological care to low-income Jordanians and refugees. In Irbid, nine team members and 23 volunteers oversee the project. HTWF has been supporting the team in Jordan since 2020.
Faculty members and students of JUST team up regularly to conduct hearing screenings in impoverished areas, refugee camps, and schools. They thus have the necessary experts in place to reach a great number of children. JUST also receives ongoing support from the university, the King Abdullah Hospital, and the Ministry of Health.
Project objectives

Impact and achievements
Although the Covid-19 pandemic has heavily impacted the start of the project, JUST was able to train 160 students in conducting hearing assessments, performing newborn screening in refugee camps and rural areas, and conducting speech therapy. The local team also held awareness campaigns with hearing screenings in different regions of Jordan and fitted children identified as having hearing loss with hearing aids.
